This is the third Edition of this book. Organic synthesis has gone through several developmental stages since the publication of the second edition of this book, therefore every chapter has been updated in the third edition to keep pace with the developments in the field. Some of the important addtions/updations in this edition are; the stereochemical control of reactions,  a new chapter on the use of  organotransition-metal reagents, the exploitation of lithium diisopropylamide (LDA) as a base in the formation of new C-C bonds; free-radical reactions for the synthesis of C-C bonds; uses of organosilicon compounds, and subtle new protective and condensing reagents in polypeptide synthesis.

The text is extensively cross-referenced and there is a detailed index.
